A Full Lineup of Free Concerts Too!
SAPPORO CITY JAZZ began in 2007 with the slogan “Turn Sapporo into a city of jazz”, and has since grown into one of the largest international jazz festivals in Japan. Throughout the year, a variety of events are held both in and around Sapporo.
In summer, over 200 professional and amateur musicians perform at the Park Jazz Live, a free-admission event held at around 10 venues across the city, including Odori Park. Other highlights include the Park Jazz Live Contest, up-and-coming jazz musicians compete, and the North Jam Session, featuring domestic and international artists on the outdoor stage of Sapporo Art Park.
In winter, the THEATER JAZZ LIVE takes place at Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater hitaru. Held for a full week, this premium jazz concert series features professional musicians from Japan and abroad. Guests can enjoy live music with exquisite drinks and dishes at a specially arranged restaurant within the venue. The performances are enhanced a sophisticated setting, by a dazzling 3-meter-wide illuminated chandelier—the festival’s main symbol—as well as state-of-the-art visuals and sound systems.
